Poker Strategy: Beginner
    STARTING HANDS
Before you begin playing Texas Hold’em, you should understand the difference between good poker hands and bad poker hands. Reading up on hand probabilities and hand rankings is a good start. When you are starting out in poker (such as Texas Hold’em), try to play Limit Poker at the lower limits (such as $1-$2 or lower) until you get a handle on starting hands.

Raising Hands
These are considered very good poker hands with which you should raise the pot before the flop: AA, KK, QQ, AK, JJ, AQ, TT.

Calling Hands
When you have one of these poker hands, you want to call in order to see the flop so that you can make an informed decision. Call a maximum of two bets with these hands: AJ, KQ, QJ, JT, T9 (suited), 99, 88, 77, Ax (suited).

There are differences when playing Pot-Limit Poker and No-Limit Poker, and choosing to play certain opening hands rather than others may become a part of your poker playing strategy. However, you will learn more about those types of poker as you progress in experience and confidence.
